Active travel means walking and cycling for those everyday journeys. Building regular physical activity into your normal daily routine will help you lead a longer, healthier life. Even a hectic life can be a healthy one.
Cycling solves so many problems at once: it keeps you fit, it’s fast, cheap, reliable and good for the environment too! Getting on your bike is one of the easiest ways to keep fit. It’s a lot cheaper than gym membership and much more useful.
Volunteer Walk Leader Thank You Day
Thursday 14th January 2010
You should hopefully have all now received invitations and signed up for this year’s Volunteer Walk Leader celebration day at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth on January 14th. We have organized the event in partnership with Cornwall Primary Care Trust’s Mobilise! and Devon County Council’s Travelwise. Four buses have been booked to transport you from the many corners of the two counties although we apologize that we are unable to cater for individual departure points.
The event will be a great opportunity to experience the Aquarium and meet fellow Volunteer Walk Leaders from other walking groups – and perhaps exchange ideas?
Our guest speaker this year is Natural England’s Strategic Health Adviser, Dr William Bird, who was awarded an MBE in the 2010 New Years Honours List in recognition of his services to health care and to physical activity. He developed the concept of Health Walks while working as a GP in Oxfordshire in 1995.
Let’s hope the weather doesn’t get in our way!
