Can I cycle with children?
It’s now easier than ever for you to ride with young children:
- Good foot support makes the journey much more comfortable for children, and good padding protects young bottoms from bumps
- Straps and padded headrests are essential because children will sometimes fall asleep on a ride
- Look for seats that can grow with your child and are compatible with panniers.

West Briton article, Club 200 Mobilise is a countywide initiative, from UK charity Sustrans, that aims to get more people, more active, more often, through walking and cycling. The project promotes and supports regular walks and cycle rides on beautiful trails and paths across Cornwall giving people the opportunity to increase their physical activity levels, welcoming anyone whatever their age and ability. The project offers easy-paced cycle rides throughout the week, supported by volunteer support riders. People enjoy a relaxed, friendly and sociable atmosphere whilst cycling local trails such as the Mineral Tramways, Camel Trail and Clay Trails. Penny Ward cycles regularly with Mobilise; “Joining the cycling group has been so much fun and I’ve met so many new people. It’s a really easy way to become more active and it’s so enjoyable. I am really feeling the benefits of cycling and it’s a great way to unwind and relax. I can go at my own pace and it keeps me busy in my retirement.” Tracey Barter, who leads the bike rides says, “Cycling is a great overall activity and gives people a bit of freedom and a chance to explore. As well as the health benefits like increasing fitness and helping manage your weight, it is also fun and even people who have never cycled have come and had a go and quickly found how easy and enjoyable it can be.” Mobilise is a Big Lottery funded project delivered through Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health Promotion Service.
